William David Ownbey

Meridian, Texas

William David Ownbey of Meridian, formerly of Cleburne, passed away June 22nd 2023 At his home in Meridian TX.

Billy was born September 8th 1953 in Cleburne to Clifford “Bill” Ownbey and Harriet Anderson Ownbey he graduated Cleburne high in 1972 and received a Bachelor's of Industrial Technologies from Tarleton University. Billy was also a Master Electrician, a licensed HVAC Technician, and known for his skills as a mechanic and welder. He rode dirt bikes for much of his life. He worked for the railroad for many years and owned The Ownbey Sign Company until he sold it to spend more time with his family.

Billy finished out his career as a project manager for Crowley ISD, where he worked for 23 years. Once retired Billy enjoyed camping, hiking, working on cars, and various projects around his home. Billy especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow. He was extremely proud of his family and always came to the rescue when his kids needed him

The depth and caliber of Billy’s character is most evident in the way he raised his girls. Billy poured himself into raising his three daughters with an unparalleled love and dedication.  He was a loving father who cherished his daughters above all else. He extended this same love and care in the way he cared for his sons, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, and 13 grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memories and share his passions are his loving wife Tessa Ownbey, daughter Brandie Montgomery and husband Jason, their children Kaitlyn, Lucas, Shelby, Rylee, Logan, and Stryker, daughter Kimberly Stafford husband Garrett, their daughter Charlie, daughter Kaley Myers and her children Kade and Kendall, son Schuyler Lewis and wife Rachel their children Brynleigh and Owen, son Jesse Lewis and wife Sarah, their children Annalisa and Daniel, and son Jarron Lewis.

Billy was a devoted father, husband, and mentor to many.

A memorial celebration for Billy will be held at his home in Meridian on Monday June 26 from 9:30-11:30 am.

Billy loved St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to his favorite charity.
