Sue Barron Kerley

Sue Barron Kerley of Meridian, TX passed away January 21, 2024. The celebration service will be Saturday, January 27th at 10:00 at First Methodist Church in Meridian, with Pastor San-Ky Kim officiating under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home. Family will receive visitors from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M., Friday, January 26, 2024 at Lawson Funeral Home.  Burial will be private in the Meridian Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Toby DeMoss, Tom Kerley, Jay Martin, Wayne Garrett, Damon Reeves, and Charles Prude. 

Sue was born September 14, 1936, in Lamesa, Texas, to Mildred Sheppard and John N. Barron. She was reared in Lamesa, graduated from Lamesa High School (1955), graduated from Hardin Simmons University (1959), and began her teaching career in Odessa, Texas, where she taught for 31 years. She loved her students and took part in all their activities. After retirement, she moved to Meridian in 1999, where she lived on the family farm that her grandparents purchased in 1905. In Meridian, she served on the City Council, the Economic Development Board, and helped establish the public library in its early stages. She also served on the Bosque County Art Center council and sang in the Bosque Chorale. She loved her church and her church family, and had been active in the church choir and various Bible Studies. She particularly enjoyed the Lord’s Harvest, where she donated her beautifully

hand-crafted items each year. Sue was a talented and enthusiastic artist. She enjoyed dancing, singing, painting, reading, and quilting. However, her favorite of her many hobbies was the annual Kerley Card. She took great pride in crafting her handmade cards, a symbol of her love and joy for her many friends and family. This tradition spanned 56 years.

Sue is survived by her beloved children, her son Tom Kerley, of San Diego California, and her daughter Lucinda Kerley and husband Toby DeMoss, of Morrison, Colorado. She is also survived  by countless friends from Lamesa, Odessa, and Meridian, and hundreds of students whom she adored.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Meridian Public Library or to Damon Reeves of Torchbearers International, who she has faithfully supported throughout the years.
