Walter “Woody” Woodrow Wetherington

Walter Woodrow Wetherington, 81, of Hico, passed away on May 26, 2024 in Stephenville, Texas.  Walter was born on September 24, 1942 in Bradenton, Florida to Walter W. Wetherington and Nora Irene Mixon. 

Walter was raised and educated in Bradenton, Florida.  He married the love of his life Carol Ann Culler  on December 2, 1961 in Louisville, Ohio.  They have been married 62 years.  He spent 9 years in the United States Navy when he enlisted on December 7, 1959 in Sarasota, Florida.  While in the Navy he was stationed at Polaris Missile Assembly Station in Charleston, South Carolina; Polaris Submarine Base Holy Loch in Scotland; Submarine Base Groton, Connecticut; before being discharged on November 29, 1968.  He then worked as a Signal Maintainer on the Penn Central Railroad.  

Walter graduated Brigham Young University in 1975 with his Bachelor's Degree.  He worked 26 years at Texas Instruments as a mechanical design engineer and retired December 31, 1999.  Walter was a Past Master of Duck Creek Masonic Lodge #1419 in Garland, Texas.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; Walter W. Wetherington and Nora Irene Mixon Wetherington. 

Left to cherish his memories are his children: Walter III and Mickie of McKinney, Texas; James and Stephanie of New Boston, Texas; John and Cynthia of Hico, Texas; David and Kathy of Allen, Texas; his sister: Shirley and Dave Phillips of Middleburg, Florida; two nephews: David of Florida and Robert of Pennsylvania; two nieces: Robin of Palmetto, Florida and Mona of Sarasota, Florida; Grandchildren: Lillie, Katie, Shellie, Hollie, Austin, Nicole, and Josh; 13 Great-Grandchildren; and numerous extended family members, and a host of friends.

Per his wishes, there will be no services held at this time.

Arrangements were entrusted to Lawson Funeral Home, Meridian, Texas 254-435-2792.
