Vernon Shelton Rountree, age 75, of Meridian, Texas, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at his residence.
Vernon was born January 25, 1945 in Liberty, Texas and raised in Batson, Texas where he graduated West Hardin High School in 1963. He was a devoted husband to Virginia Rountree and a proud father of 4 children, his family meant the world to him. He worked as a roughneck and offshore in Alaska, later he became a Regional Manager at Conn’s Appliances, mostly he was always working with his hands.
Vernon was well known by the community in Clifton, Texas where he retired and helped with the family business, “Rountree Appliance”. He loved playing dice, cards, and fishing every moment he had. He was a member of the Mason Masonic Lodge #974, in Batson, Texas. He was the most honorable and caring man and loved his family more than anything.
Left behind to cherish his memories is the love of his life, and wife, of 45 years, Virginia Louise Rountree of Meridian, Texas; Children, Robert Shelton Rountree, and wife Stacie, of Dayton, Texas; Dantha “DeeDee” Rene Rountree, and husband John, of Parker, Colorado; Michael Allen Rountree, and wife Stefanie, of Clifton, Texas; Benetta “Lynn” Rountree, of Hamilton, Texas; 15 grandchildren and their spouses, 18 Great Grandchildren; Brother, Gordon Rountree and wife, Vera of Batson, Texas and his 4 beautiful dogs, CJ, Raina, Zelda, and Smiley; numerous other relatives and many friends.
Preceded in death by his mother, Seawillow Rosetta Cross-Rountree, sisters; Benetta and Jolynn, and brother Buddy.
A private memorial service for family and friends will be held in Batson, Texas at a future date.
