Velma Louise (Karasek) Whitney, 80, of Hamilton, Texas, passed away on April 9, 2024.
She was born on July 30, 1943, to John A. Perry and Minnie (Wendland) Karasek. Velma graduated from Pottsville High School in Pottsville, Texas and attended business school in Fort Worth, Texas.
She married George Whitney in Pottsville, Texas on February 9, 1963. They traveled the U.S. through the Air Force living in Kansas, Massachusetts, California, Florida and back to Texas.
After George retired they settled in Cranfills Gap, Texas, Rogue River, Oregon, and then to Iredell, Texas. After his death she moved into Hico, Texas to be closer to family.
She worked with varies jobs over the years including secretary, office manager, Montgomery Wards jewelry department, sewing factory, Levels Food Store, and banking.
She volunteered with other military wives, girl scouts and boys scouts, search & rescue in OR and with her church.
Her other interests included sewing, crocheting, camping, traveling, stamp collecting, and spending time with her family.
She had two children, Tina Tracer of Hico, TX and Jon Whitney of Liberty Hills, TX. Four grandchildren Chris and Nathan Leuty of Bedford, TX, Makayla Whitney of Jacksonville, NC, and Joseph Whitney of Cedar Park, TX. Five great grandchildren Gabe Bicknell, Layton and Layla Whitney, Jaxson and Jenson Whitney; brothers Kenneth Karasek and David Karasek
She is preceded in death by her parents; and sister Joyce Johnson.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at the Baptist Church in Hico, TX.
