Rufus G. "Butch" Belcher, III, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016 in Waco, Texas.

Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian with Brent Prescher officiating.

Rufus G. Belcher, III was born on November 26, 1941 in Morgan, Texas to Rufus Belcher, Jr. and Ora McCauley. Butch graduated from Meridian High School in 1960. In October 1963, Butch joined the U.S. Army 386 Airborne Medical Specialist Support Group in Fort Campbell, KY. Butch served 3 years as a parachutist and received Rifle and Carbine Expert Marksman recognition. On October 2, 1966, Butch received and honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. Butch began to work with his two brothers in Syracuse, N.Y. installing television towers. During this time both he and his younger brother Tommy fell at least 100 feet resulting in serious injury to both young men. Butch built his home and settled in Meridian. He worked as an electrician for Wallace Electric from January 1998 until he retired in December 2003. Butch enjoyed fishing and hunting but most of all spending time with the joy of his life, his younger brother Tommy. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Meridian.

He is survived by his nephew, James Belcher of Bastrop; a niece, Angelora Belcher of Waco; and many friends and neighbors.

Preceded in death by his parents, R.G. Belcher, Jr. and Ora McCauley Belcher; and his brothers, Bob Belcher, Jimmy Belcher, and Tommy Belcher.
