Robert Woller

July 28, 1937 — June 7, 2017

Robert K. Woller age 79 of Meridian, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in a Meridian nursing facility.

Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian.

Robert Kay Woller was born on July 28, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to William Frank and Phyllis Mae Halliday Woller. He graduated from Cody High School in 1955 and immediately went to the police department to fulfill his dream of becoming a cop. He passed the tests but was devastated to learn that he could not go to the Academy because he failed the physical. They told him he was color blind! After working at the GM Diesel plant for almost a year he joined the United States Air Force on September 13, 1956. After basic training and Technical School where he learned to send and receive Morse Code he went to Japan and began his 23 year career of service to his country. Bob was an avid bowler and spent much of his off duty time perfecting his skill. He continued his career with a year in Vietnam in 1965 and other overseas assignments in Crete, Greece, Thailand, and Italy. After a failed marriage which produced two sons, he met Ginger Jones on June 27, 1966. And the rest as they say...... is history. Bob loved sports especially golf, getting the elusive hole in one in Hawaii at the Navy-Marine Course on Oahu. He was the pitcher on the base slow pitch softball team and traveled throughout Europe in competition at other Military bases for softball, bowling, and golf. Bob and Ginger loved to travel and explore other countries. Bob has been to 31 countries. In 1991 the couple quit their jobs at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and moved to Texas. Country life on the farm was a little too slow for this city boy and in 1998 they became full time RVers. In 2000 they traveled to Alaska along with Ginger's brother Wade and wife LaRue and a good friend who has lost his wife earlier in the year and had planned the trip with them. That trip completed the 50 states. Then they became Work Kampers in the summer and were still doing that when Alzheimer's took over Bob's life and he was admitted to the Meridian Manor/Nursing Home on May 30 2012.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Virginia "Ginger" Woller of Meridian; son, Kent Woller and wife, Terra; grandchildren, Caitlin Woller; cousins, Sharon and George Leshinsky of Eastland, Michigan, Dr. Randy and Suzanne Heatley of Munith, Michigan; other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Phyllis Woller; and son, Kevin Woller.
