Rita Shipman

Rita Jo Shipman, 80, of Glen Rose and formerly of Walnut Springs, passed away, Friday, January 24, 2014, at a Glen Rose care facility, with her family by her side.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A. M., Monday, January 27, 2014 at Lawson Memorial Chapel in Walnut Springs with Rev. Craig Odom and Pastor Craig Shackleford officiating. Interment was in the Nancy Smith Cemetery near Glen Rose. A visitation was held from 4:00 until 6:00 P. M., Sunday, January 26th at Lawson Memorial Chapel. Pallbearers were Alden Rush, Dave Hopson, Ricky Shipman, Dwayne Glass, Steven Thompson, and Steve Allen.

Mrs. Shipman was born January 21, 1934 in Glen Rose, Texas to Jess Hopson and Effie Wheeler Hopson. She was raised and educated in and around Glen Rose. On February 23, 1957 she married Frank Shipman. After marriage the young couple moved to Walnut Springs where they raised their family. Mrs. Shipman was a homemaker and a member of the Cottonwood Baptist Church, Glen Rose.

Survivors include her children, Robert Dean Shipman and wife, Becci, of Glen Rose and Gary Lynn Shipman and wife, Melody, of Tolar; grandchildren, Brittany Rush, Tiffany Guerrero, Tony Watson, Jr., Zoee Watson, Chase Shipman, Cody Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Kylie Rush and Shaylee Guerrero; brothers, Kenneth Hopson of Glen Rose and Dennis Hopson of Fort Worth.

Mrs. Shipman was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Effie Hopson; husband, Frank Shipman; an infant daughter; and sisters, Marie Rhodes and Billie Underwood.
