Reba Johnson

Reba L. Johnson, age 96, of Clifton, passed away early Tuesday morning, Nov. 21, 2017, in the Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Kopperl Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation.

Reba was born Oct. 28, 1921, on the McCullough family ranch just outside of Morgan Texas.
She graduated from Morgan High School and it was there that she met the love of her life, Ralph Johnson. The couple were married on Dec. 27, 1939, in Morgan. They were blessed with one daughter, Vicki Johnson.

After Reba and her family moved to Grand Prairie, Texas, she began her working career at a down town shoe store. After being told that women could not properly sell shoes from a shoe stool, she preceded to talk them into considering her employment by giving her a week trial period. At weeks end, she had out sold everyman. She went on to become store manager of several more shoe stores in the Metroplex.

Chances are if you grew up in Grand Prairie, you bought your shoes from Reba. So many of these children came back as adults to buy for their children. Reba was the first woman to be the head buyer for a group of shoe stores, which was quite an accomplishment for the times.

Reba was a loving wife, devoted mother while maintaining a full time career.

In 1946 she joined the Texas Federation of Womens Club. She continued this charitable work that she loved so much for the next 71 years. She as a true matriarch for her family and will be missed dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 2003; her parents, Charles Lee and Thelma Louise McCullough. Left to cherish her memory is her only child, Vicki Johnson; grandchildren, Brett and Amy; great-grandmother to six children; other relatives and friends.
