Pearl Mize

Pearl Mize, age 96, and a longtime resident of Meridian, Texas, passed away Monday evening, December 16, 2013, in a Meridian nursing facility.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P. M., Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Meridian First Baptist Church with Rev. Colin Errington and Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Interment was in the Meridian Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Gary Goolsby, Mike Goolsby, Terry Goolsby, Hunter Goolsby, Sterling Goolsby, and Carter Crawson.

Mrs. Mize was born August 11, 1917 in Anson, Texas, a daughter of Joseph Mitchell Thurman and Lillie Dell Rogers Thurman. After graduation from high school she married Horace E. Mize on November 23, 1935 in Anson. For most of their married life they resided in Meridian where they raised their family, attended church, and school and social functions. Mrs. Mize worked for many years as a sales clerk in the hardware business and was a dedicated member of the Meridian First Baptist Church, hosting parties for her Sunday School class, participating in most church activities, including helping to prepare and serving meals at various church functions.

Survivors include son, Ray Mize and wife, Debbie, of Meridian; a daughter, Fern Harris, of Burleson; grandchildren, Lori Bainborough and husband, Tony, of Austin; Bethany Lee and husband, Matt, of Ft. Worth; Miranda Mize of Waco; Gary Goolsby and wife, Betty, of Kingsland; Mike Goolsby of Waco; Terry Goolsby of Robinson; Kristy Goolsby Bates of Gatesville; Rhonda Harris Davis and husband, Kenny, of Burleson; and Keith Harris and wife, Tracy, of Burleson; 15 Great-grandchildren; 9 Great-great-grandchildren; and 1 Great-great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Mize was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, her husband, Horace E. Mize, and daughters, Claudell Mize and Sidney Jo Mize Goolsby.
