Mildred Myrtle Herzog was born on December 11, 1929 in Clifton, Texas to Emil Carl and Sophie Ida Ruecker Herzog. She married Wayne Byron Howard on December 23, 1946 in Clifton, Texas. She was a seamstress most of her working career. Mildred loved to visit with people whether at the Herzog and Howard Reunions, Grandkid's birthday parties, or holiday get-to-gathers. She enjoyed Sunday afternoon visits with family when they lived next to her folks at the circle. Visiting and family were VERY important to her. She also loved to crochet. She completed 31 "Lord's Prayers" which are displayed in churches, Lutheran Sunset Home, and in the homes of several kids and grandkids. Mildred crocheted numerous names, doilies, table cloths, bedspreads, etc.. Mildred enjoyed taking camping trips to the Blue Mountain Campground in Branson, which started in 1982, enjoying music, entertainment, and visiting with the camping group. This came after almost every weekend at Lake Whitney with their 4 children as they were growing up. Other family members also met at Whitney for a visit on those weekends. She and Dad took several trips outside the states with their family. Mildred was 1 of 3 Herzog sisters who married 3 Howard brothers, thus 3 sets of double cousins. She often spoke German at home due to the fact that her father had had a stroke and could only speak his native language. Often times she would yodel with her sister, Tillie, as they visited with the family on Sunday afternoons next door at her mother's house. She loved to cook and bake. Mildred would make homemade fudge for Wayne, husband, and for Byron, son who was born on her birthday, on his BD. She had a love for children. Operating a Home Child-Care for several years. She often asked, "I wonder what has happened to all of those kids I kept?" In fact, as we searched for a picture to share, it was difficult to find one where kids and grandkids were not in the photo. She will truly be missed.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Wanda Klose and husband, Ken, of Meridian, Geneva Massingill and husband, Ned, of Robinson, Maxine Nixon and husband, Dennis, of China Spring, Byron Howard and wife, Barbara, of Meridian; her sister, Sophia Bernhardt of Clifton; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; number of other relatives and a host of friends.
