Mervin L. "Fuzz" Spitzer, age 89, of Meridian, passed away early Monday morning, July 4, 2016 in Meridian, Texas.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Meridian with Rev. Henry Radde and Rev. Daniel Hawkins officiating. Interment will be at the Clifton Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M., Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian.
Pallbearers will be Michael Spitzer, Gary Fossett, Loyd Fossett, Darrell Goains, Dean Engle, and Jason Engle.
Mervin L. Spitzer was born on February 17, 1927 in Perry, Texas to Ernest and Alma Stark Spitzer. He married Bobbye Wilcox on February 24, 1950 in Clifton, Texas. Together they had one son, Tommy Spitzer. Fuzz worked for Erath County Electric Cooperative presently known as United Cooperative Services where he worked as lineman and area foreman for 34 years. He had served on the Meridian City Council for 20 years; on Meridian I. S. D. School Board for 6 years; Meridian Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years and a longtime member of the Iredell V. F. W. Post #8559. Fuzz was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Meridian.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbye Spitzer of Meridian; son, Tommy and his wife, Sandra, of Meridian; grandchildren, Michael Spitzer and wife, Elizabeth, of Little Elm, and Courtney Spitzer of Joshua; great-grandchildren, Clayton, Nathanial, Elijah, Lorelei, and Adelei Spitzer, all of Little Elm; sister, Mabel Martin of Houston; brother, Elton Spitzer of Hitchcock; number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
