Margie Sue (Ridings) Wimberly

Margie Sue Ridings Buckingham Wimberly age 102 of Meridian, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 23, 2019 at a Clifton care facility with family by her side.

Funeral services will be 2 P.M., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Meridian First Baptist Church. Rev. Richard Creech and Rev. Colin Errington will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Walnut Springs. Visitation will be from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M., Friday, April 26, 2019 at Lawson Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Anthony Malott, Brad Buckingham, Chuck Buckingham, Paul Buckingham, Mark Buckingham, Bryan Ball, and Greg Ball.

Margie Sue Ridings was born to AJ and Mary Epps Ridings on the Parks Ranch between Cranfills Gap and Clifton on April 25, 1916. Margie grew up in Bosque and Erath counties. As a young girl she was attending the Carlton First Baptist Church Revival, nervously walking home alone she heard a voice say "Why are you afraid, I am with you." The next evening, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ, was never again afraid of anything and was baptized. She then graduated from Walnut Springs High School in 1935. On February 18, 1939 she was united in marriage to Charles C. Buckingham, Jr. Through this union was born four children, Charles C. Buckingham, III, Margie Sue Buckingham, Connie Lou Buckingham Malott, and Roy Gene Buckingham. Margie enjoyed staying very active in her children's lives through PTO, as a 4H leader, Sunday school teacher, and any and all other community events. While she was a wonderful mother, she was also a very welcoming and loving person to anyone whom she encountered. In 1957 Margie and family moved to Meridian where her husband became Deputy Sheriff and Jailer for Bosque County. Margie made her first venture into the restaurant business by going to work at the Circle Cafe in 1958, with her love for cooking and visiting with her customers she decided to purchase the cafe in 1962. Throughout the area she was known for her chicken fried steak and pies. Margie retired 17 years later to their farm at Walnut Springs in 1979. Never one to sit and be idol she spent many days in her vegetable garden and enjoyed doing upholstery. After 47 years of marriage she lost her husband Charles C. Buckingham, Jr. on August 24, 1985. She became active taking trips and participating in various activities through the senior center. With her caretaker personality she began cooking for the senior center where she met Herman Wimberly, they married November of 1988. By 1990 Herman and Margie moved to Meridian, she continued her cooking and baking at home for family. Herman proceeded her in death in 2008. Margie moved to Manor on the Hill retirement center in 2010 where she enjoyed her apartment and occasionally even cooked for the other residents.

Throughout the years Margie welcomed and is survived by her four children, Charley Buckingham and wife, Karen, of Burleson, Sue Buckingham of Irving, Connie Malott of Meridian, and Gene Buckingham and wife, Annie, of Elm Mott; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and many friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, AJ and Mary Epps Ridings; and two brothers.
