Mackin Henry Withers, age 91, who resided in the Lakeside Village community on Lake Whitney, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 P. M., Friday, April 18, 2014 at the Kopperl United Methodist Church in Kopperl, Texas with Rev. Kent Berry and Rev. Allen Goss officiating. Graveside services were held at 3:30 P. M., Friday, at the Pleasant Point Cemetery, near Lillian, Texas.
Pallbearers were Adrian Chapa, Kelly Edwards, Bill Harrison, Scott Harrison, Jeremy Maxwell, Tim Wiles, Kelly Edwards, and Isaiah Kershner. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Ray and Keith Kendrick. Honorary pallbearers In Memoriam: Charlie Shelton and Jim Williams.
Mr. Withers was born May 13, 1922 in Lillian, Texas, a son of Richard C. and Ruby Mackin Withers. He was raised in Lillian and graduated from Alvarado High School in 1939 and then attended college for two years. In 1943 he was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and was awarded a Bronze Star and a World War II Medal for his service. Mr. Withers was Honorably Discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1946 and upon his discharge he settled in Mansfield, where he owned and operated a grocery store business. In 1962 he retired from the grocery store business and moved to Morgan, Texas. He began his ranching career and still had cattle at the time of his death. On June 6, 1981, Mr. Withers married Bonnie Harrison in Mansfield, and together they made their home in Lakeside Village.
Makin took the time to know people as individuals and to show them how much he cared about them.
He knew and loved his cattle in the same way and had them all eating out of his hands.
He will be missed by all.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Withers of Lakeside Village; son, Scott Withers of Lakeside Village; step-daughter, Lisa Fallon and husband, Patrick,of Austin; step-son, John Harmon and wife, Pat, of Grapevine;; 5 Grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Sue Leonard of Houston
