Louise Sellers McCune, age 90, of Lakeside Village, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 20, 2015. Graveside Tribute and Prayers were held on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at the Kopperl Cemetery in Kopperl, Texas. Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian is serving with Rev. Richard Creech presiding at graveside service.
Louise was first daughter born to William F. Sellers and Etta Mae Powell Sellers in Walnut Springs, Texas on June 15, 1925. She attended elementary and high school in Walnut Springs, graduating from Walnut Springs High School in May of 1942.
She went on to attend North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, Texas earning a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Elementary Education. Louise earned a Teachers Permanent Elementary Certificate of the First Class, moved to the West Texas oil town of Andrews and accepted a teaching position with the Ector County Independent School District in 1949. She taught school there for several years.
Louise entered a lifetime of mutual loving and supporting marriage with Martin Keith McCune on November 18, 1951. The ceremony was performed in her parent's home in Walnut Springs. Keith McCune departed this life on September 10, 2009.
Throughout her life, Louise remained active in the United Methodist Church. Her most recent affiliation being with the United Methodist Church in Kopperl, Texas. She was also an avid and gifted artist working in oil painting, tole painting, and some china and ceramics. In active retirement years, Louise and Keith enjoyed hobbies, travel and community activities from their home in Lakeside Village.
Louise is survived by her sister: Billie Jean King of Fort Worth; nieces: Phyllis Ann King, Jeannie Marie King; and her only son: LTC James C. McCune U.S. Army (Retired) of Lakeside Village; and his only two daughters: Kelsey Leigh McCune, and Courtney May McCune; and Ms. Patti Lou Powell of Lakeside Village, Texas.
An "old school" classically educated Texas lady, focused on gracious generosity to those in her home and Christian kindness to all lives that she touched. She will be deeply missed and greatly admired by us all. God's speed, Louise, as you depart this world for a better place. We will miss you.
