Juanita G. "Nita" Johnson, 93, of Lubbock, Texas, formerly of Midland, Texas, transitioned to her eternal life on Monday, January 15, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, followed by interment at the St. Olaf Lutheran Rock Church Cemetery, Cranfills Gap, Texas. A visitation will be held from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Lawson Funeral Home, Meridian, Texas.

She was born to the late Anna and Martin Carlson in Bosque County, Texas, in 1924, graduated from Cranfills Gap High Schoool, Cranfills Gap, Texas, in 1942, and was awarded "Most Athletic" of her class having been captain of the basketball team and competing in barrel racing at local rodeo events.

In 1946, after his honorable discharge from the U. S. Navy, she married Merrill M. Johnson at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. They moved to Midland, Texas in 1947, and lived a happy life together there prior to moving to Lubbock, Texas in 2008. She and Merrill were instrumental in the founding of and are charter members of Midland Lutheran Church in Midland. Her expertise as a seamstress led her to provide alteration services for various retail entities in Midland prior to opening the very successful Nita's Alteration Service in 1975, retiring in 1994. Nita will be remembered for her love for family and friends and her feisty and tenacious spirit.

Nita is preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Martin Carlson; husband, Merrill Johnson; sisters, Constance Hinton, Jewel Surley, Trula Ficklin, Hilma Billman, and Faye Bryn; and brother C. G. Martin Carlson.

Nita is survived by her loving family; daughters, Mitzi Mulkey (Tom) of Lubbock, Texas, Pamela Feist (Gary) of Midland, Texas, Phyllis Wilburne (Ollie) of Sweetwater, Texas; grandchildren, Melissa Blann (Dave), Brandon Mulkey (Christie), Jason Mulkey (Rebecca), all of Lubbock, Texas, April Santiago (Erik) of Abilene, Texas, Ollie Wilburn, IV (Elizabeth) of Garden City, Texas, and Brianne Wilburn of Corpus Christi, Texas, along with 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marynell Carroll (Mitt) of Texhoma, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 402 Meridian Street, Cranfills Gap, Texas 76637, or to the charity of one's choice.
