Johnny Sherrill Baxter, age 55, of Meridian, passed away late Friday night, April 11, 2014, in a Ft. Worth hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, April 14, 2014, in the Riverside Baptist Church in Meridian with Bro. R. C. Kelly officiating. Burial was in the Meridian Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Oldham, Chris Dennis, John Barnes, Eric Painter, Paul Putnam, Kelly Payne, Harry Cheatham, and Cody Reeves. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Wayne Terrell and Jerry Bates.

Johnny was born April 11, 1959, in Meridian, Texas. He was a son of June Benson Baxter and the late John Oliver Baxter. He was raised and finished school in Meridian. Johnny was a graduate of Tarleton State College with a degree in Agriculture Business. He became a skilled welder and fulfilled his desire of working as an oil pipeline welder throughout the world. He returned to home in Bosque County where he owned and operated Baxter Dozer and Trucking until his health forced him to retire. Johnny was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church in Meridian.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Riverside Baptist Church, 801 E. Morgan St., Meridian, Texas, 76665.

He is survived by his children, Ricky Hightower of Navarro Mills, Jeremy Hightower of Kerens, Susan Hightower of Corsicana, Jeffrey Hightower and wife, Stacy, of Meridian and Dakota Baxter Phillips of California; mother, June Baxter Wimberly and her husband, Cecil, of Glen Rose; sister, Barbara Howard and her husband, Byron, of Meridian; grandchildren, Faith Hightower, Kelby Hightower; Colton Haven, Hailey Haven and J. J. Hightower; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
