Johnnie Ellen (Baucom) McDowell

Clifton, Texas

Johnnie Ellen McDowell age 79, of Clifton, went to her heavenly home on January 17, 2023 at Providence Place in Waco, Texas surrounded by the love of her family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian. Bro. Richard Creech will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Walnut Springs. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as pallbearers will be Dalton Estein, Lalo Reyes, Michael McDowell, Dayton McDowell, Collin Schasteen and Weston Schasteen.

Ellen was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on November 10, 1943 to John and Zetha Estein Baucom. She graduated from Meridian High School in 1962. She attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. On April 2, 1965 she married Garry McDowell in Walnut Springs, Texas. To this marriage one son was born, Michael McDowell. Mrs. McDowell worked for Kimberly Clark in Atlanta, Georgia until she and Garry moved back to Texas to live on the McDowell home place. During her last five years of working, she worked for Kimberly Clark's Aviation Division in Dallas, Texas until her retirement. Ellen and Garry lived in several states during Garry's employment with J.C. Penney's. Ellen always wanted to return to Texas to be near her family. She was a beautiful lady who loved her family and family gatherings. She also enjoyed reading and watching TV, especially golf and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved watching documentaries on TV too. During her early childhood she enjoyed visiting with her grandparents who lived down the road from her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Garry McDowell; son, Michael McDowell; parents, John and Zetha Baucom; and brother-in-law, Neal McDowell.

Left to cherish her memories are her brother, Ken Baucom and wife, Robin; nephew, Kevin Baucom; niece, Karen Schasteen and husband, Jeff; nephew, David McDowell and wife, BJ; niece, Shannon Thaxton and husband, Jeff; sister-in-law, Joann Baucom; brother-in-law, Gerald McDowell and wife, Joyce; sister-in-law, Linda McDowell; great-nephews, Collin Schasteen and wife, Ashley, Weston Schasteen, Michael McDowell, Dayton McDowell, Jax Thaxton; great-niece, Zoe Baucom; close friends, Geneva Perez and Lalo Reyes; and many cousins and other friends. She is also survived by her trusty companion, Ellie her black lab.

The family would like to thank Dr. Martha O'Reilly, who was Ellen's physician for several years. They had a great physician to patient relationship.
