Joe Allen, Sr. age 85, of Meridian, passed away on February 20, 2021 in Waco, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 P.M., Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian, Texas. Burial will be in the Meridian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Friday, February 26, 2021 at Lawson Funeral Home.

Joe Louis Allen was born February 9, 1936, in Meridian, TX.  He departed this life at 9:25 P.M., Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in, Waco, Texas.

Joe was born to the union of Helen Tennessee and John Blaine Allen.  On April 6, 1954, he ws united in marriage to Beulah Mae Carter.  To this Union were born seven children and two bonus children.

Joe was a long-time member of the Meridian Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he served as a elder for many years.  He spent many days at the local coffee shop spreading the word of the gospel with anyone that would listen, he believed if one person opened their heart to God’s salvation, it was a time well spent.  In the early years, he was employed with Gulf Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad Company and the Meridian Poultry and Egg Company, in Meridian which caused him to travel over the road to provide for his family. He did not like being away from his family, so he decided to open his own business which is known as Joe’s Salvage in Meridian, Texas.  He believed in helping those in need.  He was very involved in supporting his community, as a member on the Meridian Hospital Board for numerous years.  He also served as a volunteer fireman for 28 years in Meridian.  Joe brought joy and Happiness to anyone’s life he touched and will be thoroughly missed.

Left to cherish is loving memory, six sons; Joe Allen, Jr. and wife, Ruby of Waco, Michael Allen, Gary Allen of Meridian, TX, Tony Allen, Christopher Allen of Lorena, TX, and Brandon Munn of Blum, TX.; daughters, Barbara Crawford, Felicia Bell of Meridian, TX and Vera Carter Voss, of Waco, TX; Two brothers, Robert Allen of Ft. Worth, TX and Warren Allen of Clifton, TX; One sister, Laverne Allen Hendricks of Redwood, CA

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Blaine and Helen Allen; Sisters, Geneva  Allen Clemmons and Katherine Allen Crawford; brother, John H. Allen; mother and father-in-law, Dessie Robinson and  B.T. Carter; Step-father, Eddie Robinson Jr.,; brother-in-law’s Dan T. Carter, Eddie Robinson and George Robinson; sister-in-law, Nellie Simms.

Arrangements were made by Lawson Funeral Home, Meridian, Texas 254-435-2792.
