James C. Townley, age 88, of Morgan, passed away suddenly on Monday morning, November 11, 2013,in a Clifton nursing facility.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, in the Morgan Cemetery, Morgan, Texas, with Rev. Charles Collett officiating. Additional rites by the Masonic Lodge and the U. S. Army Honor Guard.
James was born Jan. 6, 1925, in the Steiner Community of Bosque County, Texas, where he was raised. In May of 1945, he was united in marriage to Carrie Ellen Williams in Morgan. She preceded him in death in 1983. James served in the U. S. Army from 1943 until 1945. While in the service he served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland in Central Europe. He was awarded several citations including the American Theater Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars , the Good Conduct medal, the Purple Heart and the World War II Victory Medal. He worked in road construction for many years and later helped in the J & T Station in Morgan. James also worked for a time at the Morgan I.S.D. He was a member of the Morgan First Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge and the V. F. W.
He is survived by his daughter, Joann Jackson of Morgan; grandson, James Jackson and wife, Carol, of New Braunfels; great-granddaughter, Jennifer Jackson of New Braunfels; great-great-grandson, Kiley Jackson of New Braunfels; a brother, Harold Townley of Morgan, 2 nieces, and 1 nephew.
