Hugh Stanley Dugan of St. Paul, Texas passed away on August 7, 2023, after a brief stay at Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas, Texas. Hugh was born in Wheaton, Illinois on September 2, 1938, to Horace Stanley Dugan and Amy Brooks. A proud graduate of the University of Texas in Austin, Hugh married the love of his life, Janice Heath on June 3, 1961. Together Hugh and Janice enjoyed 41 years of love, marriage, and parenthood before Janice preceded Hugh in death in 2003.
Hugh began a career in the steel industry with U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before ultimately going to work for Interlake Steel while living in Troy, Michigan. Hugh eventually moved his family to Plano, Texas in 1986 after accepting a sales position with Heritage Bag Company. After spending many years in the plastic bag industry, Hugh ultimately moved to the food service industry and finished his illustrious career in sales with Cinpak Inc. before his retirement on August 16, 2012.
Hugh had a love for travel that led to him spending time with his family and friends all over the United States and Canada. As much as he loved the mountains of Colorado, the brilliant fall colors of Maine, and the breathtaking coast and beaches of Oregon, his favorite places to visit were Utah and the towns of Banff and Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada. Hugh also had a passion for baseball, both as a fan and a pitcher who made it to the Double-A level of major league baseball. Hugh also had exquisite taste for all kinds of food and could quickly recommend the best spots for cuisine in many cities throughout the country.
In addition to his wife Janice, Hugh was preceded in death by his father, Horace Stanley Dugan and mother, Amy Brooks; brothers-in-law Jimmy Ted Heath and Elwood Benson; and his great grandson, Hudson Dugan. He is survived by his sister Lola Mae Johnson and niece Patti Johnson; sister-in-law Joyce McDowell and Gerald; brother-in-law John Heath and Carol; son Scott Dugan and Karen; son Heath Dugan and Kathleen; daughter Amy Slaton and Andy; and many wonderful grandchildren, their spouses, and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to express sympathy consider making donations in memory of Hudson Dugan to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105 or to their charity of choice.
