Guss Willard Eoff, Jr., age 91 of Meridian, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 9, 2014, at his residence near Meridian.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, December 14, 2014, in the Meridian Church of Christ with Minister John Moore officiating. Burial was in the Meridian Memorial Cemetery located on SH#144.
Visitation was from 5 to 7 P.M., Saturday, December 13, 2014, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers were Sean Eoff, Shannon Eoff, Dart Hyde, Tim Talley, Bryan Ramsey, and Jason Strawser.
Guss was born March 7, 1923, in Ft. Worth, Texas, and was raised in southern California. He was a son of Guss W. Eoff, Sr. and Minnie Frances Ware Eoff. On February 22, 1942, he was united in marriage to Ila Laline "Lily" Norris in Huntington Park, California. To this union one son was born, Larry, also a Gospel preacher. Guss began preaching in 1942.
Guss attended Pepperdine College and Southwest State Teachers College. He received his Doctor of Ministry in 2000. Guss had preached in local congregations in California, Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Missouri. He also preached in twenty-five countries and twenty-seven states. He served as a missionary in Hong Kong for two years. In 1974, he went on a preaching safari in Tanzania, East Africa, that covered some 20,000 miles before he returned home. He had conducted eighteen campaigns in Malaysia and Singapore. In 1952, he conducted the first television program for Churches of Christ in northern California and in 1959, he conducted the first gospel meeting in Thailand. He has conducted weekly programs in California and Texas and daily radio programs as well as weekly programs in California, Oregon, Texas, and Louisiana. World Video Bible School has put out a DVD with 140 of Guss' hand painted charts.
He is survived by his son, Larry, of Meridian; grandchildren, Sean Eoff of Fort Worth, Shannon Eoff and wife, Lisa, of Valley Mills, Mindy Daukas and husband, Darren, of Pleasanton, California; great-grandchildren, Abigail Eoff and Preston Eoff, both of Valley Mills, and Grant Worley Galyean and Darren John Daukas, Jr. "Jack", both of Pleasanton, California; sister, Esther Bosanko of Mission Veijo, California; a number of other relatives and many friends.
Mr. Eoff was preceded in death by his parents, Guss Eoff, Sr. and Minnie Eoff Ward; and his wife, Ila Laline "Lily" Eoff.
