Gene Austin Harville age 91, of Meridian, passed away on April 20, 2023 in Denton, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M., Monday, April 24, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Meridian. Bro. James Gilbert and Bro. Richard Creech will officiate. Burial will be in the Morgan Cemetery. Gene will lie in state at the funeral home on Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 10 A.M. until 5 P.M.
Gene Harville was born on July 2, 1931 in Sweetwater, Texas. His family moved to Morgan, Texas when he was a young lad and he grew up and graduated from Morgan High School in 1948. At the age of 17, Gene began a lifelong career with the Santa Fe Railroad in Cresson, Texas as a telegraph operator. On August 21, 1951 Gene married his Kopperl girlfriend, Aline Steinkamp and shortly moved to Ballinger, Texas. After 11 different cities with Santa Fe, Gene finally retired as superintendent and moved to Meridian in 1990. Gene loved his family ( 3 children, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren). Gene also loved to travel with friends and family. Colorado, Louisville Kentucky ( Gospel Quartet Conventions), Fall Foliage trips and Israel were some of his favorites. Gene’s hobbies included pecan tree grafting and gardening. Gene was a keen fisherman with annual visits to Lake Whitney with his buddies for catfish harvesting. They made these trips together for over 45 years! Last but not least, Gene was a loyal follower of Jesus Christ and lived as an example of commitment and excellence to his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memories are his children, Laura Gaile Kinne of Temple, Renee Brundrett and husband, Bryant, of Valley View, Donald Harville and wife, Karen, of Buena Vista, Colorado; grandchildren, Jared Kinne and wife, Tiffany, of Lake City, Colorado, Lisa Blackman of Kansas City, Missouri, Madeline Kinne of Grapevine, Sarah Spann and husband, David, of Prosper, Rachel Magness and husband, Andrew, of Denton, Amanda Brundrett of Fort Worth, Beau Brundrett and wife, Crystal, of Leander, Rebecca Harville, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Taylor Harville, of Buena Vista, Colorado; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Don Harville and wife, Heidi, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister, Gaile Ellis of Burleson; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Preceded in death by his parents Austin and Eula (Locke) Harville and wife, Aline Steinkamp Harville.
