Gaylia Burks Hanna, age 88, of Meridian passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in Waco, Texas.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Meridian. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Meridian Cemetery. Rev. Ken Shaddox will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ron Hanna, Jr., John Hanna, Tripp McKay, Darin Moulton, Jack Burks, III, and Brian Belt.
Gaylia Burks was born on September 23, 1928 in Waco, Texas to Floyd W. and Johnnie Bell Arrowood Burks. She graduated from McGregor High School. After graduation she attended the 4C business college in Waco, Texas. She married Alton Lloyd Hanna on February 14, 1948 in Waco, Texas. She loved to read, sew, and help others no matter the situation. Gaylia made Meridian her home in 1974 after moving from Dallas. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Ocee.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Hanna, Sr. and fiance Julie; daughter, Brenda McKay and husband, Tom, of Meridian; grandchildren, Ronald Hanna, Jr. of Pensacola Beach, Florida, John Hanna of Plano, Thomas "Tripp" McKay of Fort Worth, Melissa Moulton of Meridian, Shelley Beit of Honea Path, South Carolina, Jonathan Crouch, and Carissa Simpson; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Burks of Fort Worth; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Preceded in death by her husband, Alton Lloyd Hanna on October 15, 2004; parents, Floyd W. and Johnnie Bell Arrowood Burks; daughter, Karen Crouch, grandson, Richard McKay; and a brother, David Burks.
