Fred A. McDowell, age 90, of the Spring Creek community in Bosque County, Texas, passed away on Tuesday morning, October 10, 2017, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, October 13, 2017 in the Spring Creek Baptist Church. His brother, Rev. G. W. McDowell, will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until service time. Burial will be in the Spring Creek Cemetery.
Fred was born August 30, 1927, in the Spring Creek community. He was a son of the late Joseph Eugene McDowell and Ollie Adeline Alsup McDowell. He was educated at the Spring Creek School. On June 6, 1948, he was united in marriage to Peggy F. Howell in Ft. Worth.
Fred attended Southwestern Theological Seminary and graduated on May 1, 1953 with a Diploma of Sacred Music and later with a Bachelor of Religious Education on July 13, 1956. Fred served in various churches in Texas during his career until retiring in 1993. He and his wife moved to Spring Creek where he served the Spring Creek Baptist Church until 2015. He also served as President of the Spring Creek Cemetery Association.
In memory of Fred, the family has asked the memorials be made to the Spring Creek Baptist Church, 3627 FM# 1473, Meridian, Texas, 76665.
His survivors include his wife, Peggy, of Spring Creek; children, Freida M. Golden and husband, Bill, Beverly Naylor and husband, Richard, all of Spring Creek; 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ida Mae Shores and husband, Richard, of Virginia, Sandra Patty and husband, Jim, of Ft. Worth; brother, Rev. G.W. McDowell and wife, Doris, of Ft. Worth; number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph, Milton and Hugh McDowell.
