Eva Sue Westbrook (Lane) Watson

Eva Sue Westbrook Watson age 82, of Meridian, Texas, passed away at her residence in Meridian, on August 8, 2023 with her loving husband by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, August 11, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Meridian. Bro. Richard Creech will officiate. The Watson family will receive visitors at Lawson Funeral Home from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M., Thursday, August 10, 2023. Burial will be in the Morgan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Evans, V, Cody Salinas, Dylan Carr, Cade Drewry and Paul Hardcastle.

Eva Sue Lane was born on November 19, 1940 in Meridian, Texas to Jack and Mattie Lane. She attended school in Meridian until about the 9th grade. Eva Sue was an exceptional basketball player in school. Sue went to UTPB and got her degree in Biology and Geology. Eva Sue worked as a geologist for a number of companies before finally landing a job with the EPA as their Enforcement Officer. Sue's primary job was to oversee Airforce bases and their fresh water contamination. Eva Sue and William H. "Bill" Watson were united in marriage in Hawaii on January 11, 2011. They enjoyed the retired life on their ranch in Meridian. Often times you could find Sue working outside. She had a passion for making Meridian a better place to live. Eva Sue was a founding member of Grassroots which primary focus was to clean up Meridian. Sue was a work horse and did not like to sit still. She will be truly missed.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband, William H. "Bill" Watson; daughters, Stephanie Drewry and husband, Bill, Mitzi Jones; grandchildren, Daniel Evans, Cody Salinas, Morgan Suggs, Case Drewry; great-grandson, Lenox Suggs; sister, Ruby Stevens; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, S.D. Lane, Bennie Jo, Martha, Sammie, Jackie, Marquita and Ramona.
