Emma Lorene Johnson Alsup, age 98, of Grand Prairie and a former long time resident of Meridian, passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 21, 2017, in a Grand Prairie nursing facility.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, Feb. 25, in the Morgan Cemetery with Rev. Richard Creech officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:30 P.M., Saturday at Lawson Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Leland Stewart, David Stewart, David White, Ryan Faulkner, Brian Bankston, Jerry Johnson.
Lorene was born Oct. 5, 1918, in Kopperl, Texas. She was a daughter of the late Aron Johnson and Leafy Smith Johnson. She was raised in the Kopperl area. On Oct. 31, 1937, she was united in marriage to Cecil "Buckle" Alsup in Kopperl. She and her husband lived in Meridian for several years before moving to Grand Prairie in 1954. Lorene worked at several jobs but mainly as a mail clerk for Blue Cross/Blue Shield before retiring. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Dotsy White , Bill Alsup and wife, Margaret, and Joanne Williams, all of Grand Prairie; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Aron and Leafy Johnson; husband, Buckle Alsup, sister, Pauline Stewart; brothers, Lewis and Cecil Johnson.
