Elizabeth (Liz) Woosley

Elizabeth (Liz) Woosley, age 78, of Meridian, passed away late Monday evening, August 22, 2016, in a Waco hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 27, in the Meridian Church of Christ. Minister Drew Hyde officiating. Private family only burial in the Meridian Cemetery. Visitation from 5:30 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, at Lawson Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Cody Woosley, Corey Woosley, Josh Woosley, Jake Woosley, David Bogart, Les Bogart, Troy Latson, and Todd Murphy.


Liz was born February 8, 1938, in Benevidez, Texas, to her parents, John G. and Louise Philley Bogart. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1956 where she was a member of the Abilene High School Eagle Band. She married Henry Woosley in 1957. Following their marriage, the Woosley's moved to Meridian, Texas where Henry ran his father's feed store and Liz was a homemaker. Liz attended and graduated from cosmetology school an owned and operated a beauty shop in Meridian for several years. Later, she and Henry owned and operated Henry's Restaurant in Meridian...one of the most popular restaurants and catering businesses in the area. Their restaurant was popular enough that "fish night" regularly brought patrons from as far away as the Dallas/Ft.Worth area for dinner and to have been chosen to cater an event for then Governor Ann Richards as a special request.

Liz was a patient and supportive mother with a passion for her children, family and church. She had a beautiful voice, loved to sing at church and sang at many weddings and funerals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her brothers, Bob, Gene, and Hollis Bogart.

Liz is survived by her oldest son, Jeff and his wife, Jan, of Clifton, and her youngest son, Ken and his wife, Lisa, of Palestine; brother, John D. Bogart and wife, Nan, of Abilene; grandchildren, Cody Woosley and wife, Amber, of Meridian, Chrystal Woosley of Palestine, Corey Woosley and wife, Kasey, of Palestine, Josh Woosley of College Station, Jordan Woosley of Tahelquah, Oklahoma and Jake Woosley of Clifton; great-grandchildren, Kimberlee, Avary and Brooklyn of Meridian, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins (who were very close to her), other relatives, and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Foster's Home for Children, 1779 N. Graham, Stephenville, Texas, 76401, or to the Meridian Church of Christ, 1036 Bosque St., Meridian, Texas, 76665.
