Dortha Flatt Jorgenson, age 80, of Meridian, passed away late Friday night, May 23, 2014, in a Clifton nursing facility.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 28, 2014, in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church (Old Rock Church) near Cranfills Gap, Texas, with burial following in the church cemetery. A luncheon was served after the service in the church fellowship hall located on the cemetery grounds. As visitation was held from 6 to 8 P.M., Tuesday, May 27, 2014, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian.
Dortha was born October 16, 1933, in Hamilton. She was a daughter of the late Cortis Edward Flatt and Iola Ivena Newton Flatt. When she was 12, she moved to Meridian where she was raised and graduated from high school. On December 1, 1954, she was united in marriage to Marion "Smokey" Jorgenson in Meridian. He preceded her in death on January 24, 2008. Dortha worked as a postal clerk in the U. S. Post Office in Meridian for 30 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Meridian Church of Christ.
She is survived by a son, Curtis Earl Jorgenson and a daughter, Angela Kay Kwiakowski; sisters, Gwen Coffelt and husband, Rex, of Hico and Faye Howard and husband, Charles, of Meridian; brother, Pierce Flatt of Montgomery, Alabama; grandchildren, Christina Jorgenson Guzman and husband, Geoff, of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Hayley Kwiakowski of Missouri; great-grandchildren, Olivia Rose Guzman and Adrian Jaxon Guzman of Texarkana, Arkansas; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Wyverne Flatt and Norvil Flatt, and a sister, Beth Phillips.
