Carol Ann Linkous Olson, 79, of Walnut Springs, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2023, with family by her side.
Carol was born July 17, 1943, in Laredo, Texas to LD & Katherine Elizabeth Levy.
Carol spent her youth in Houston, Texas and attended Houston’s Milby High School in the early 1960’s. Every summer as a child she would visit Walnut Springs, Texas with her parents and sister. They would swim in Jackson’s Crossing River and play at the Katy Park fountain. The resident friends and family of Walnut remember her as a young girl with a long dark ponytail, olive skin and thin features, “she was so beautiful” one cousin stated. One of her diary entries as a young woman was to retire and live in the same community that brought her so much joy as a child. She eventually made that dream a reality and moved to “Walnut”.
At age 14 Carol met her childhood friend Rhondal Lee Linkous, Jr. In time, they grew and became sweethearts and on November 16, 1960, they married briefly and shared a beautiful son together, Philip Troy. Even though the marriage ended the strong bond of friendship continued until Carol’s last days.
Over the years Carol worked her way into management for Sears & Roebuck Company and continued for nearly 25 years.
She eventually met and married Jerry Olson and moved to Crowley, Texas. Over a span of 13 years of marriage, she had two daughters, Diane and Cheryl.
Carol was a devoted reader; she could read through books in a day. She loved watching TV and crocheting. She always wanted to be a history teacher and loved a good story. She was the family ancestry gatekeeper and knew her facts well. Sitting on the front porch swing, loving her cats and shopping at Walmart are what she enjoyed most.
Carol was mother first and foremost to Philip, Diane and Cheryl. Her children were more important to her than anything. She enjoyed the visits and called regularly to check up on all three. She would always say “I love you with all my heart”.
Carol is missed by EVERYONE she knew, she made everyone’s life a happier one. She was always so strong, going through so much throughout her life, now she’s happy, healthy and at rest in heaven.
When Carol was asked what she did all her life, her answer was always, “raised my children, I love them with all my heart”.
Carol is survived by her son Philip Linkous (Traci) of Houston, Texas, Diane Hildreth (David) of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Cheryl Heilman (Frank) of Saginaw, Texas, and her sister Cynthia Suzette Moore of Walnut Springs, Texas and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. Carol is preceded in death by her father LD Levy and mother Katherine Elizabeth Levy.
