Bill G. Davis, age 81, of Meridian, passed away early Thursday morning, January 23, 2014, in the Lutheran Sunset Home in Clifton.
A memorial service was held at 12 noon Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Beverly Blackman-Mounce officiating. Bill was of the Baptist faith.
Bill was born Sept. 26, 1932, in Tennyson, Texas. He was a son of George Alexander Davis and Marion Foreman Davis. Bill graduated from Walnut Springs High School in 1949.
Bill was drafted into the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska with Army Intelligence. After his military service, he returned to Crowley, Texas and met Patricia Ann Thomas. Four children were born to this marriage, Donna Lynn, Michael Thomas, Julie Ann and George Anthony. The family relocated to Waco where Bill attended Baylor University in the early 1970's, the family moved to Somervell County where Bill served as a County Commissioner and worked as a heavy equipment operator.
Bill was united in marriage to Laura Mae Bowman on Dec. 6, 1976, in Glen Rose, Texas. The addition of her children, Wynne and Sharon Stallcop, brought their collective family to five children. Their daughter, Laura Elizabeth was born in 1979.
Bill is survived by his children, Michael Davis and wife, Stephanie, of Grandview, Wynne Stallcop and wife, Brenda, of Waxahachie, Julie Gonzales and husband, Raymond, of Ft. Worth, Sharon Bergman and husband, Richard, of Clifton and George Davis and wife, Jessica, of York, PA.; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; twin sister, Betty Strange and husband, Kenneth, of Meridian; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marion Davis; his wife, Laura Davis; an infant daughter, Donna Lynn Davis and a daughter, Laura Elizabeth Davis and two of his sisters.
