Betty Brooks

Betty Jane Potter Brooks, age 78, of Decatur, former longtime resident of Morgan, Texas, passed away, Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in a Denton, Texas hospital.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 P. M., Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian with Rev. Charles Collett, officiating.
Interment was the Kimball Cemetery, near Kopperl.

Pallbearers were Randy Potter, Jr., Jeremy Conner, Leighton Brooks, Jaren Brooks, Ethan Womack, and Dennis Headrick. Honorary pallbearer was Jeffrey Dickey.

Mrs. Brooks was born February 1, 1936 in Wise County, near Decatur, Texas to Hosey Marvin and Nellie Pitts Potter. She was raised and educated in and around Decatur. On May 14, 1955 she married Jerry E. Brooks in Fort Worth where they remained until 1989 when they moved to Morgan, Texas. Mr. Brooks preceded her in death on May 14, 1997. While living in Fort Worth and raising their family, Betty worked for the Dillard Department Store at the Northeast Mall in Hurst as an assistant manager in the jewelry department. She became a member of the Eastern Star. After moving to Morgan, Betty became a member of the Morgan First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children: Cecil Brooks and wife, Karen, of Lewisville,
Penny Ramos and husband, Johnny, of Decatur, and Steve Brooks and wife, Amanda, of Decatur; grandchildren, Mandy Conner and husband, Jeremy, of Decatur, Joe Brooks and wife, Laura, of Clifton, Georgia Dickey and husband, Jeffrey, of Morgan, Jennifer Danals and husband, Ricky, of Joshua, Stevie Brooks of Alvord, Ethan Womack of Jacksboro, Leighton Brooks of Decatur; 11 Great-grandchildren; sister, Vanita Brown of Decatur; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, H. M. and Nellie Pitts Potter; husband, Jerry E. Brooks; siblings, James Lee Potter, Marion Potter, Jackie Potter, and Mary Stevens Potter.
