Barbara Covey

Barbara Jane Covey, age 85, of Comanche, formerly of Meridian, passed away Monday, August 17, 2015, at her residence.

Graveside funeral service were held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Meridian Cemetery in Meridian. A visitation was held on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Lawson Funeral Home from 9 :00 A.M. until service time. Rev. Richard Creech will be officiating.

Barbara was born on August 26, 1929 in Port Lavaca, Texas to Pearl Henry and Dovie Carter Carpenter. She married Loyd Covey on September 12, 1946 in Port Lavaca, Texas. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to San Marcos and later to Clifton in 1951. In 1964, they moved to Meridian. Mrs. Covey lived in Meridian for several years after the death of her husband in 1997. She had resided in Comanche for the past several years to be near family as her health declined.

She is survived by her children: Johnny Covey and wife, Kathy, of Hico, Jimmy Covey and wife, Helen, of Comanche, Ann Covey of Dublin, Sharon Forest of Paradise, Brenda Gregory and husband, David, of Dublin, Gregory Covey and wife, Cindy, of Port Lavaca; number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings: Henry Carpenter of Port Lavaca, Frances Kruse of Port Lavaca, Shirley Johnson of Fort Comfort, Mary Johnson of Houston; number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Preceded in death by her husband: Loyd Hubert Covey; and sons: Hubert Loyd Covey, and George Kenneth Covey.
