Edward DeWayne Williamson, D.D.S.

Dr. Edward Dewayne Williamson passed on February 17th, 2020 in Waco, Texas, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital.

The memorial service has been postponed due to recent health safety recommendations.  As there will be people traveling from many towns to meet, we cannot in good conscience put anyone at risk when we can postpone until a safer time to protect loved ones, church family, and friends.

Ed was born in Athens, Texas, to the late John Brantley “Johnny” Williamson and Mary Lucy Beasley Williamson.  He earned his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, and obtained his doctorate of dental surgery degree from the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston.  Ed served in the Navy as a dentist from 1959 – 1961 in San Diego, California, and then began his private practice in Greenville, Texas.  Ed practiced dentistry for 19 years in Greenville, and then he and his family moved to Meridian, Texas in 1980.   He practiced dentistry for 28 years in Meridian, retiring in Clifton, Texas.

Ed served his community on the Greenville YMCA Board of Directors, supporting sports, fitness, and youth programs.  While working with the YMCA, Ed also pitched for an adult YMCA softball team.  He served with the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, Meridian City Council, Meridian Manor Board of Directors, and Lions Club.  Ed also helped establish the Meridian Library.  He was active with the Grace Presbyterian Church in Greenville, Texas, as a choir member, and also in Clifton, Texas, with the First Presbyterian Church choir.

Ed’s love of music introduced him to his sweet wife, Joy Williamson, as they met while Joy was looking for a tenor for the church choir that she led in Meridian.  They shared a love of their faith, music, nature, family, sports, and community.  Ed dearly loved Joy, and they were married from 1996 until his passing.  The loving and kind people of Bosque County made their life in Meridian and Clifton very special, and the family wishes to extend their thanks for contributing so many wonderful memories to Ed’s life, and your kindness and support for him when he was ill.

Ed was a very loving, devoted, and hard-working father, who shared many cherished moments with his family.  His family will always hold those moments very closely in their hearts.  He was a good-hearted man, who shared his love of faith, gardening, sports, laughter, and adventure with his family, and his admiration of the rolling hills of Bosque County that he proudly called home.

Edward Dewayne Williamson is survived by his wife, Joy Trotter Williamson (Clifton), his daughter, Lucy Compton (Frisco), his son, Johnny Williamson and wife, Melanie Williamson (Austin), his step-daughters, Janet Darr (Sachse), and Julie Arivett and husband, David Arivett (Round Rock), his grandchildren, Michael Compton and wife, Alyssa (Prosper), Justin Duck (Austin), Travis Duck (Plano), Emily Watson and husband, Joel (Little Elm), Lauren Darr and Jared Clardy (Sherman), his great-grandchildren, Adlee Compton, Lily Watson, Harley Clardy, and Paisley Clardy, his brother, Don B. Williamson and wife, Nancy, and nieces Wendy Williamson, Molly Montgomery, and Mary Marix.
